Sydney duo Sures are winners of our Laneway Fest competition. They'll be adding their lo-fi surf pop to the Laneway line-up at the Sydney College of the Arts this Sunday Feb 5.
Interview: 30 January 2012
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
It was a year long process that took us from chillwave through 50's rock, 80's synthpop and 90's grunge before a sound started to develop.
Right now though we're at the stage where we're just trying to write good pop music.
You’re the Sydney winners of our LANEWAY competition. What can LANEWAY revelers expect from the Sures live show?
At least one broken string, some heavy reverb and our drummer getting progressively drunker.
What are you most looking forward to about the Sydney LANEWAY on Feb 5th? Who are you psyched to see?
Well we heard there is a free hot meal involved, we're all hoping its a pub schnit. In terms of bands though we're keen to go mental for yuck.
What are your earliest memories of seeing live Australian music?
My first local show would have been when I just turned 18, me and a friend got drunk in the alleyway around the corner before a Bird Automatic show. I thought it was awesome.
What’s coming up for you in 2012?
We're playing a secret venue with Bleeding Knees Club and the Drums DJs on the 7th Feb. After that we have a whole bunch of shows, including our first interstate with Real Estate. Hopefully we'll put something out somewhere along the way.
Australian music is…?
...killing it at the moment, we're finally developing our own sound rather then relying on the sounds coming from America and the UK. Big fans of the latest releases from Cloud Control, The Middle East and Parades.
