Growing up in a confined musical environment in England and being surrounded by people with limited taste meant that my knowledge in music was somewhat poor. My move to Australia saw a big difference in my musical taste; I started listening to everything from unknown rappers and experimental rockers to hardcore metal bands that have never before come under my radar. My move to the country also brought forward new ways in which I approached music. Rather then just waiting for music, go and get it!

Is there an influence from the Wild West? Or some eerie Ghost Town in the middle of nowhere? Possibly both. Or neither. Regardless, there’s a unique sound present that is infecting. The looped vocal is a nice touch which allows the listener to appreciate the other aspects of the track itself - in particular, the incredibly strong verses which are delivered wonderfully, perfect in unison and really help drive the piece. The breezy chorus is a nice change of pace but the vocals really pick up a notch once the male vocalist kicks in. He takes us into another dimension briefly with his well placed psychedelic turn - he loosens up your shoulders just in time for the home stretch - its good fun quite frankly. Honestly, one of the best unsigned hip hop acts I have heard come out of Brisbane in quite some years - the other tracks up on Unearthed are equally as great, but this track in particular, truly is something quite special.

The unique aspect of Unearthed is it enables the music fan to watch as a band grows in the early stages of their career. Some bands (The Young + Restless come to mind) already have 'it', others are capable of producing something great but struggle to create anything memorable thereafter, then of course they're acts that have a large amount of potential and grow into something truly wonderful.  Shadowgame fall into the later. The foundations of a great band are present but their track Restless does nothing to blow the listener away. However, as a listener, you cannot help but wonder how far these boys could go. Musically and Vocally, the track is well executed but it quite frankly lacks that wow factor. As a genuine recommendation, I would suggest listening to people at the height of their field and see how they play with the dynamics of their instrument. Christina Aguilera for instance, is very well known for having a powerful voice, but she has perfected the art of being able to manipulate it for further emphasis. I'm not suggesting to imitate the pop star, but rather understand how she works and how such emphasis can really make a difference - in modern rock terms, David Bowie, Thom Yorke and Florence have used this to great effect. Keith Richards, Jack White and even Matt Bellamy have perfected this effect on their guitar and I'm sure that if Shadowgame experiment with the basic dynamics of their instruments, they could one day, produce something truly special.2 and a half Stars.

Very reminiscant of UB40, which is by no means a bad thing because UB40 are pretty f’ing awesome. The concept of the track is intriguing and the overall vibe is infectious in that it becomes very hard not to bop ya head back and forth. All in all, this is a solid little number and one that could easily catch on.

‘Booty Boots’ is nothing new in the slightest, but it has a catchy quality that is sure to get your crotch moving back and forth. By no means is it a masterpiece, but it is of a high standard regardless and ultimately comes off quite well. Omega has some nice moments which help lift the tune into Club Banger Territory and MacManus himself delivers in a fun and upbeat manner which is infectious but it is the assisting artist who steals the show, delivering a well structured rap to great affect. I’m not trying to take anything away from the two artists themselves because overall, they have created a nice little pop hop anthem.

This really is quite wonderful. Thought provoking lyricism generally unseen within the Oz Hip Hop Scene, simplistic but funky as hell beats and the didgeridoo which leads into a perfectly placed female backing vocal is a great touch. This truly is one of best pieces of Oz Hop I’ve heard in a long time.

I really like this cool number - it has a dirty Quentin Tarantino vibe to it, in that I could see people tapping their feet to this whilst watching someone lose an ear. A wonderfully dark atmosphere. Good Work.

Not a bad number both lyrically and musically. Vocals lack that punch the track requires.

Well played, well structured and a nicely placed drop (accompanied by a cool guitar solo). Still, the music can’t save this one from being no better then a crappy piece of 80’s Glam. The megaphone is such a cheesy and truly awful touch and the chorus which should capture the listener, does nothing of the sort and misses the point completely. Vocal - a Generous Half a Star. Musicality - Three Stars. Combined - Just an Average 2 and a Half.

In a lyrical context, this is a strong number. Simon builds his verses particularly well with well structured content and a fairly good energy. However he seems to be holding back somewhat in regards to said energy, in that I feel he really could have let loose towards the end of that second verse. In regards to each chorus, they could’ve been used to build and build upon the last but it never happens. Most of the lyrical content could have benefited with the vocalist belting out his lyrics and those chorus’. The backing vocals also, could have really assisted in making that energy reach said level, but sadly they don’t. Finally, musically it’s a tad plain and I’ve heard similar but better stuff that is less simple. 2 and a Half Stars.

This track has a pleasant charm, it may be a little too simple at times but that doesn’t affect the ‘ nice and peaceful’ mood of the piece.
