We Grow Up
Anthony is a songwriter in Adelaide band 'We Grow Up'. Let's now relate to you information about that band, shall we? Yes...
Winners of national radio station Triple J’s unearthed competition "We Grow Up" are a five piece South Australian Indie-Pop outfit founded by singers/songwriters Jonathan Mortimer and Anthony Golding, who in mid 2006 recorded the songs that make up the band’s first album, the self titled “We Grow Up” in Jon’s bedroom.
In December of 2006 they were joined by bassist Pru Hart and drummer Jakub Tengdahl and began playing live gigs around Adelaide. The band has since switched Jakub to keys and added new drummer Tom Mackay to help fill out their live sound.
Taking cues from bands such as Belle & Sebastian, Elliott Smith, The Beatles, The Fiery Furnaces and Of Montreal, the band aim to create pop tunes with catchy yet subtle melodies and interesting, lush arrangements.
In mid 2007, although they had only been playing in the live scene for a matter of months, the band attracted the attention of Missy Higgins and Triple J, winning a triple j unearthed competition. The band was subsequently selected to open for Higgins on the Adelaide leg of her ‘On a Clear Night’ tour, in front of more than 2000 people.
The greater exposure achieved from ‘the Missy show’ has helped to build We Grow Up’s local fan base, while subsequent triple J airplay has helped create greater awareness of the band nationally.
The hardworking band has just finished their 2nd album ‘Night Kitchen’, which has already received very positive reviews from local press. They recently launched ‘Night Kitchen’ at the Jade Monkey to a capacity crowd.
‘We Grow Up’ are now seeking to build on this early success, playing a variety of shows across Adelaide to help build and consolidate their local fan base further. They are also actively seeking out label representation..
