Singer Songwriter Jo Cooper is a vivacious, energetic, and magnetic personality who has always loved people and music. Being your typical talkative Gemini communicating in any form is what makes Jo happiest.

Growing up with parents that believed singing had no future and was not considered “a real job” it was never going to be easy to follow a career in music. Despite these challenges Jo would sing everywhere, “I drove my family crazy singing around the house, in the car, anywhere I could” Singing in the classroom is where Jo first gained the attention of her music teacher “I would constantly have my walkman in my ears during music lessons as I was more interested in singing than learning an instrument. As Jo’s voice was louder than the instruments being played in the class room her teacher grew frustrated. This resulted in an ultimatum, to sing at a small school cabaret or face afternoon detention which was not an option for Jo as her father wouldn’t have been best pleased.

After the school cabaret Jo’s music teacher mentioned to her father that she should take up after school singing lessons, unfortunately this was not going to happen. So singing around the house, in the car and even back in the class room continued…..for now!!

Although Jo enjoyed a successful career on Major Projects and also running her own business, eventually she felt something was still missing. Struggling with emotions and confusion around what she should be doing Jo took a trip back to childhood. This led to the realisation that her passion for both communicating and singing had never left but was pushed aside whilst life took over “You can push aside your passions and dreams, eventually they will scream out to you, and you either continue to ignore the scream or you just take the opportunity and do what you were meant to do”. The opportunity of being able to do two of her favourite things, singing and talking, has led to Jo wanting to be a singer and a presenter on radio or TV, I love singing but I also talk a lot (ask anyone who knows me), so I thought what better way to be able to talk all day then on radio”.

In 2009 Jo started up singing lessons once more and although still not convinced that she should pursue it professionally Jo grew to enjoy it more and more. Eventually that scream grew too loud to ignore and now in the middle of recording her first ever 5 song EP Jo is more determined than ever to follow her dreams. “It’s been exciting but also nerve racking, I have put my heart and soul into writing each song and they all mean something to me personally”. Jo credits this opportunity to her husband whom she describes as “husband of the year every year, he is my soul mate”.
