Brisbane based four-piece Montpelier create melodic indie-pop with purpose and clarity. Their unique sound is a combination of soaring harmonies and warm melodies, wistful and poetic lyrics, sharp rhythms and a captivating pop sensibility. Their music is likened to Death Cab For Cutie, The Arcade Fire and Doves supported by a depth of honest raw songwriting, setting them apart from their melodic pop peers.

Montpelier recently released their debut self-titled EP in March 2010, recorded in the USA with producer Kevin Augunas (Cold War Kids, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Yves Klein Blue). So enthusiastic was Kevin about the band’s early demos and live videos, it didn't take much for the young independent band to travel over to record their debut EP at Kevin’s LA studio.

After touring the first two singles from the EP, The Rafters (Rave Magazine Single of the Week; Triple J Unearthed feature track) and the celtic-folk influenced, Take A Picture, Montpelier have recently returned from taking their self-titled debut EP to a sold out audience at The Zoo in Brisbane and onward to packed shows at The Espy in Melbourne and The Gaelic in Sydney.

Montpelier have shared the stage in Australia with Biffy Clyro (UK), Frightened Rabbit (UK), The Boat People, Sparkadia, Operator Please and Skinny Jean. Tracks from Montpelier’s EP have been played on 4ZzZ in Brisbane, 3RRR in Melbourne, and featured on Triple J unearthed.
