Kate Vigo’s sound is a fusion of pop-rock teamed with programmed loops and electronica. She is an amazing genre blender.

Her first single and award winning video clip, ‘The Way You Are’, made radio waves around the country, and Kate Vigo continues to build a name for herself in the Australian music scene. The greatly anticipated release of her second single and EP, ‘Someone Better’, has not disappointed, with increased radio airplay and festival success. Kate has firmly cemented herself as one to watch in the alternative and electronic pop-rock landscape. She is currently in the studio working on her new album which will be launched over the 2010/2011 Australian summer.

With a sound reminiscent of eclectic pop and stylized rock, Kate is joined by amazing ensemble musicians known as ‘The Underground Orchestra’ – Guitarist Max Walker, Drummer Ben Hendry and Bassist Mike Story.

Kate is a talented and truly original songwriter who has been acclaimed and acknowledged as a recent winner at the 2010 Music Oz Awards for Best Video, finalist in the 2009 New Artists to Radio Competition and was also short listed in APRA’s Vanda and Young Songwriter of the Year Awards in 2009.

Kate finished a degree in fashion design before undertaking a Bachelor of Music Performance (Voice Improvisation) at the VCA and, while worlds apart, parallels can be found in Kate’s music and her love of fashion. Weaving together a distinct array of sounds, from Billie Holiday to Feist, by way of Prince and Blondie, Kate’s eclectic mix of influences create a foundation on which she builds her distinctive, yet accessible compositions.

‘The Way You Are’ and ‘Someone Better’ are the first two singles released from Kate’s upcoming album which she is currently in the final processes of completing.

REVIEWS

“A great record, full of vocal magic and seductive loops that are by turns playful, wistful and dark. It’s experimental pop that’s still fun, sitting somewhere between Billie Holiday and Zap Mama…self-penned wistful love-songs which are personal, but oddly universal…Eclectic, versatile, part pop, electronic and stylish ‘60s torch rock, all awesome.”
Beat Magazine

“Kate Vigo’s voice is soaring…her poignant portrayal stops you in your tracks.”
Inpress

“A little bit pop, and a whole lot entrancing.”
Herald Sun, HIT

“She sings with a maturity and timbre that belies her youth … a truly original artist.”
Readings Monthly

“In the wake of Lily Allen, Adele and Duffy, Britain has put out such an army of young, nice-but-mouthy-when-they-need-to-be soulful female singers. Vigo’s doing a damn impressive job of picking up our local slack in this department, proving as vocally powerful and potentially feisty as any of the above.”
Rave Magazine

“Kate Vigo is a special recording artist! A performer with class, sass and distinction. Her vocals have a certain magnetism that draws you in. Vigo, in just one concise but infectious song, gets under your skin and sets off an addictive reaction. This is the start of something big”

The Way You Are (The Doo Doo Song)

Loved it from the moment I heard it. Indie cool a la Feist with a jazz/soul undertow. And such a wonderfully emotive voice. This is great stuff.
