“(Kate) and her band give great musical value, and are definitely people to look out for”
Australian Stage Online

With a sound that effortlessly sits astride soulful, sweet and stylish all at once, you’d be forgiven for thinking Kate Vigo’s been around a while.

The fast rising vocalist, and highest album selling performer of the 2008 Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival only came onto the scene in earnest some five years ago on the open stage of the renowned Dizzy’s Jazz Club.

Vigo, runner up in the 2007 Independent Music Awards (and the only Australian nominated for the singer/songwriter category), led the late Australian music icon Clifford Hocking to remark: ‘Kate’s singing bowled me over in the same way that Kate Ceberano’s did when I first heard her …she is a remarkable talent.’

Kate finished a degree in fashion design before undertaking a bachelor in voice improvisation at The VCA, and while some worlds apart, it can be noted for the parallels found in her music. Weaving together a distinct array of sounds, from Billie Holiday to Feist, by way of Prince and Aretha Franklin, Kate’s eclectic mix of influences create a foundation on which she builds her distinct and yet accessible compositions.

Recording her debut album ‘It is Love’ with producer Myles Mumford culminated in a mixed selection, with arrangements of old favourites blended with original compositions. The album was picked up and distributed commercially by MGM, both in stores and online.

A ceaseless devotion has seen Kate continue playing live with her bands, The Kate Vigo Quintet and The Melbourne Underground Orchestra, in premier venues across Melbourne, including The Blue Diamond, Bennetts Lane, 303, Manchester Lane and The Paris Cat.

A limited edition remix EP of ‘It is Love’ was the result of innovative collaborations with some of Melbourne’s best producers, including Jan Skubiszewski (JacksonJackson) and DJ Soup (Miso).

Loved it from the moment I heard it. Indie cool a la Feist with a jazz/soul undertow. And such a wonderfully emotive voice. This is great stuff.

Excellent track - love the "real" lyrics... (reminiscent of Regina Spektor for me -- with catchier music) I'd really like to see this one make it! ...
