For 6 years, Fat Man’s Cleavage has been one of Brisbane’s most uncompromising and hard-working punk rock bands. Their live show is like a hit in the guts: outrageously loud, fast and tight, combined with challenging lyrics and near-acrobatic stage antics. The bands’ sound combines punk rock, ska/reggae and rockabilly styles into a tight and sharp package. Although the lyrics are humorous and often self-derogatory, the band definitely takes their craft very seriously. With a strong DIY ethic and a steadfast refusal to conform to passing trends, Fat Man’s Cleavage have developed a loyal fan-base and have gained respect and credibility throughout the Brisbane scene. The band have two releases under their belt: 2005’s “Unleash the Dingo” introduced listening audiences to the trio, and the independently released EP has sold over 700 copies so far. In early 2006, they released their follow-up EP “Out of Ideas” which is being sold in independent record stores in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The record has received local airplay on 4ZZZ FM in Brisbane, as well as national airplay on Triple J.
In November of 2005, Fat Man’s Cleavage was invited to play at the 6th Annual Ramone-a-thon, one of Brisbane’s most prestigious alternative-culture events. They performed alongside bands such as The Queers (USA), Mach Pelican (VIC), and the Self Righteous Bros (NSW).
This year has seen FMC embark on four interstate tours, playing dates in: Roma, Townsville, Mackay, Airlie Beach, Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Melbourne, Tarwin and Venus Bay.
“- while the band have definitely got many (psychological) issues that they need to sort out, it’s still a fun listen.”
– Noise Theory (“Unleash the Dingo”, 2005, independent)
“Out Of Ideas has definitely left me looking forward to a full length follow up. Fat Mans Cleavage have taken a giant-leap-for-mankind in musicianship, songwriting and production on this record.”
- Death Before Dishonour (“Out of Ideas”, 2006, independent)
