What can the crowd expect from you when you hit the stage at the Big Day Out?
No pyrotechnics, scissor kicks or tantrums. Just exciting verse-chorus-verse pop with more hooks than a fisherman’s tackle box.
What inspires you? Who are your musical influences?
Musically, we try to use classic songwriting methods and focus on vocal melodies first. This may be a result of an early diet of such bands including The Kinks, The Zombies and Teenage Fanclub.
You’re joining not only a great international line-up but also playing alongside some great upcoming SA bands. Tell us about your local music scene.
There are some great new venues to play at now which accommodate live bands. There are also some really good original sounds coming out of Adelaide. The bands are quite diverse in nature although they still play shows together which can make for some interesting gigs. Most of the bands in Adelaide are all friends, so there is a lot of sharing and it’s usually not a surprise to see the same person playing in multiple bands.
What’s the best thing about being in Antony of the Future?
Being in a band where everyone has total confidence in the songs we create. It’s thrill that we all share the same concept of how our music should sound.
...and the worst?
Breaking so many hearts!
What have you got planned for the future?
We have just had our EP ‘Trophies’ mastered by John Golden in California and are now working on releasing it. Following the Big Day Out we will be playing some local shows before touring the Eastern states.
This is our plan thus far but who knows what could happen in the not too distant Antony Of The Future.
Australian music is…
Apparently Australian Idol.
