Interview: 6 May 2009
Congratulations on winning our One Night Stand comp – how does it feel?
We’re all pretty amazed at the moment, its taking a while to properly sink in. Its something we never really expected to get a shot at, but we’re completely psyched to be playing. To be a part of such a huge event and to be playing alongside some of Australia’s best acts is an awesome opportunity for our band.

Tell us about your music – how did you develop your sound.
We feel our sound and style is constantly evolving, we started out with a heavy punk rock sound, but now we normally describe our selves as a rock / screamo band, but I suppose its all in the ear of the listener. We work together on every song, so every member has input or influence on the track, it helps us to push each other musically and strive to create and improve every track we write.

What can the Gippsland audience expect from your live show?
We’re an energetic band, we love live shows, it’s why we play music. We play upbeat heavy rock; we use a lot of gang vocals and shout outs. We’ll be there to have some fun, come along and get involved, it’s going to be one hell of a show.

Tell us about your town Wonthaggi.
Well, apparently Wonthaggi means “wind and rain” it generally lives up to its name. Its on the south coast of Victoria, the population is around 7 to 8 thousand people but it explodes during summer, plenty of pubs and bars but no live venues. It was originally a coal mining town but that’s been closed for ages, its about to be the site of Victorias water desalination plant. There’s not much to do down here bar surf, skate or play music, that’s about it.

What’s your experience of being in a band in a regional area? Positives/Negatives?
The distance between us and the Melbourne music scene can be a curse or a blessing, it makes it hard for us to pull our hometown crowd to shows, the travel can take its toll too (being a 2.5 hr drive to Melb). It also makes it hard to network, meet other bands and open doors for future shows.

I guess being isolated helps us to draw upon our selves and work hard with each other on our songs to achieve, rather than being influenced by the latest trends and the “IN” style at the time, instead we work off each others playing style to hopefully become what we consider to be a tight, melodic and catchy rock / screamo band.

What’s coming up in the future?
We’ve just played Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, the plan is to do another tour of shows this time getting to Brisbane and maybe Perth as well. Then hopefully secure a couple of big shows for summer before hitting the studio to record our debut album early next year.

Australian music is?
Underrated and maybe underappreciated?, in my experience, there is a massive amount of signed and unsigned bands with amazing talent playing shows and touring our great country, all needing our support, us included, so get to a show and check out the quality music Australia has to offer.
