Admella are one of our Soundwave competition winners for 2012. The punk/hardcore outfit from South Australia will be heading to Soundwave in Adelaide this Saturday 3rd March at Bonython Park.
Interview: 27 February 2012
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
Admella’s music is high energy, happy, fun, dancy, sing along punk music. We always try and keep things interesting and spend a lot of time polishing every part of our songs.
We developed our sound by going from a sort of hardcore band, into the poppier punk side of things, so it still has the high energy elements of hardcore, but has more of the upbeat/catchy side of things going on now. In terms of song writing, our songs are much much better now.
You’re the Adelaide winners of our SOUNDWAVE competition. What can SOUNDWAVE revelers expect from the Admella live show?
We are very very excited, nervous and thankful to play, so I’d say that will come off during our live performance. So we will either be running and jumping around smiling the whole time, or looking really scared and crying on stage.
But generally we try and make the crowd have fun! We always maintain a high-energy stage presence and we do everything we can in practice to sound as similar to the cd as possible.
What are you most looking forward to about the Adelaide SOUNDWAVE on March 3rd? Who are you psyched to see?
Really looking forward to seeing people that we don’t know are watching us or even singing the words if they know our songs. It'll just be great playing with such awesome bands and having a professional stage and sound set up!
We're also really pumped to try and play the best show we possibly can!
A few of us really want to see Dillinger Escape Plan really badly. Idolised those guys for quite some time and they go crazy on stage, it's funny and gets us really excited, might even want to belly flop off something.
Tonight Alive would be great to see, we’ve always wanted to play a show with those guys cause they’re awesome and the singer Jenna is very pretty. Haha.
Also the Dangerous Summer and Story of the Year! And Sum 41 of course, what guys!
What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?
Well whilst we we were in Adelaide a coupla days ago to come see you guys we got some awesome advice from my sister and her boyfriend and our guitarist/vocalist, Gavin’s parents, they both gave us a real kick in the ass motivational speech just a couple of days ago which really helped us get organised and doing all we can to advertise our shows and that kinda thing.
But besides that, I think it would be Dave Petrovic from Electric Sun Studios just his advice on song writing, recording and playing, his advice was especially helpful for me.
What’s coming up for you in 2012?
Well. Before the end of this year we will have a full length album recorded! We are hoping to do it at Electric Sun, besides that, work our asses off playing as many shows and taking as many opportunities as we can! Hopefully get picked up by some form of Agency and get recognised by a larger group of people! We just wanna play our music as much we can.
Australian music is?
Australian music is awesome at the moment, I think it has a lot to do with triple j and triple j unearthed. A lot of good bands that weren’t getting recognised before, are now, which is great. The amount of good Australian bands I hear on triple j and triple j Unearthed is crazy.
Australian music seems to have real individuality in the last few years, there are a lot bands here getting massive because no body in the states or any where else has that same sound some of these great bands do. Which for me is amazing to see.
