Brisbane sextet FOUNDS are the winners of our BIGSOUND competition and will be taking their hypnotic ethereal pop to the triple j Showcase at Brisbane's Woodland Bar on Thursday, September 8th.
Interview: 5 September 2011
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
Well, we all listen to quite diverse and different types of music and so the sound we create developed from that in a sense. We like to keep the music pure and organic.
You guys are the winners of our BIGSOUND competition and will be playing as part of BIGSOUND Live in Brisbane – what are you hoping to gain from the experience?
It is an amazing opportunity! We are hoping to present ourselves as the band we are and hope that people enjoy the music we make as much as we do. We will be thankful to hear the opinions of people involved in the music industry and meet some great musicians.
What can a punter expect from coming to see the six of you guys live?
We would like people to come to our show and feel a part of the atmosphere. It’s fascinating to see the types of people that come to our shows sometimes, it’s not really designed for anyone.
Tell us about the bands, producers and people in the Brisbane music community that inspire you.
We are very thankful to have some beautiful people helping us along the way. We have received an amazing amount of support from the people in the industry. Our manager, Andrew Stone, for one has worked his little butt of for us and it’s always lovely to see someone so passionate. Also Joc (owner of The Zoo in Brisbane) has been like our music industry mum. Joc took us under her wings when we were playing in a small bar in Brisbane last year and gave us guidance and cake!
What’s coming up for you in 2011?
The rest of 2011…(checks diary), we are finishing the EP in the next month and releasing around Oct/Nov. We have a new single to release before the end of the year too, which is exciting! Also making plans for the ‘holograms’ music video at the current time. We will be playing more shows around the country and we finish of this amazing year playing at Peats Ridge Festival in NSW for new years!
Australian music is?
...remarkable if you look in the right places. There are a lot of amazing musicians undiscovered here.
