Urban Monk and Camelot the Cameleon work on a fresh approach to Hip-hop/Beat Making/Ideas/Flows.
Interview: 11 September 2008
Tell us about your music, how did your sound develop?
CAM> We both originally come from different areas of Music styles, Urban Monk more Funk, Hiphop & soul and Cam more electronica , rock and a bit of pop but we both listen to a wide selection of music.
So when we came together and started writing, we both had a lot of
styles to draw influences from. I had always worked on Hiphop tracks but never really had them cracking till Urban open my eyes to the underground shuffling weird hiphop production he was listening too and creating. So then it became a challenge too push each other to in Urban’s case writing new flows or take a song lyrically down a path he’d never tried before and in my case try and create a new sounds or rhythms or feel for a track that would take us both by surprise.
Tell us about your live show - what can the Parklife audience expect?
CAM> The Parklife audience will expect a lot of good vibes on stage, Urban Monk is just at home when he gets on stage, he just loves it, as for myself, any chance I have of dropping my beats for friends/punters/music loves is bliss, I have the attitude of “how about this beat….?...ok not a fan…oh ya got to like this one!” and keep picking away until you find your favourite Polo Club Track.
Who are you most looking forward to at this year's Parklife?
CAM> Got to see Dizzie! That dude is on Fire!
URBAN> yeah Dizzie.... cant wat to see him been waiting for ages...
What's planned for the future?
CAM> Main aim is to release the Album we have been working on for
a long time and plays as many Gigs as possible and keep the momentum going that is building for Polo Club.
URBAN MONK> Yeah and also get this clip done.. just one step at a time, got the single launch coming up soon so trying to make that huge and get everyone along to that.
Australian music is?
CAM> Paul Kelly to Presents to Midnight Oil to Drones to Metal
bands rocking the tote on a Tuesday!
URBAN MONK> Silverchar is Australian music...that’s the shit....yeah The presets definetly..and any other people pushing and trying something different!!!!! BOOM....
