Interview: 15 March 2010
Tell us about your music – how did you develop your sound?
We started playing together about Two years ago. We were a garage band, and just sung about girls and made a lot of noise at times. I guess we started seeing what was working when we played live and generally began to focus on that, becoming better musicians in the process. Over the past Six months in particular, we have spent a lot of time recording and focusing more on our song writing and arrangements. Now, like a real band, we make a lot of noise at a rehearsal studio and sing about slightly older girls. This studio also includes a real P.A system rather than an old guitar amplifier.
What can the audience expect from a Winter Street live show?
We try and serve up high-energy shows. There will usually be a lot of dancing – our friends started that, but it has become the thing to do for all who attend. There are always big guitar sounds… And of course the best-looking bassist in town. It’s a brilliant night out!
What were you all doing before you formed?
Enrolling, then avoiding university and varied amounts of part time work. We are all glad we started Winter Street.
What’s coming up in the future?
Throughout the year we’ll be playing regularly and improving our live show. They’ll be an EP launch mid-year which will be exciting. We have also been writing a lot recently so we can head back into the studio in the not to distant future… We’ll also get some T-shirts made.
Australian music is?
Worth the effort.
